Forty seven members of the public objected to the application, which was due to go before Scarborough Council’s licensing sub-committee on Friday.

The reasons for the objections included fears that it could leave the potential for the change of use from a restaurant to a public bar.

Another added that they feared “urination and defecation next to local properties”.
A report that had been prepared for councillors stated that not all of the reasons for objection are valid under licensing law.
North Yorkshire Police had not raised an objection to the proposal.
